MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – The Berkeley County Emergency Preparedness Department, in conjunction with a dozen local, state and federal agencies, will conduct an emergency simulation exercise on Saturday, March 19th from 8 AM to 4 PM.
The exercise will simulate an earthquake strike in Berkeley County that causes significant damage, traffic accidents, traffic diversions, fires, rescues, and the need to provide emergency sheltering and establish points of distribution.
Staff of the participating agencies, along with community volunteers, will be staged at numerous locations for the exercise including Cane Bay High School, located at 1624 State Road in Summerville; Cane Bay Elementary, located at 1175 Cane Bay Boulevard in Summerville; and the Berkeley County Emergency Services Training Center, located at 474 Reid Hill Road in Moncks Corner.
“It is important residents know that, even though there will be a significant number of emergency personnel at and near the schools on Saturday, this is a simulation exercise only,” said Berkeley County Public Information Officer Michael Mule’. “Berkeley County asks the public to please obey all posted signs and follow instructions of law enforcement involved with Saturday’s exercise, so they do not inadvertently interfere with the important training exercise.”
For more information on the exercise and to gain press access to the staging area at Cane Bay High School on Saturday, please contact Lori Kidwell of the Berkeley County Emergency Preparedness Department at 843-729-2968.
