ST. STEPHEN, S.C.–Timberland High School’s Agricultural Department is having its 2016 Spring Greenhouse Plant Sale. Premium potted plants, hanging baskets, flower bedding plants, and vegetable plants are available for purchase on Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. until 3:45 p.m.
The Agriculture Program has been a part of the school’s Career and Technical Education Program area since January 2012. Currently, there are 89 students enrolled in the program. This year the following courses were available for students to take: Agriculture Science and Technology, Forestry, Wildlife Management, and Agricultural Mechanics and Technology.
The proceeds generated from the annual Holiday Poinsettia Plant Sale and the Spring Greenhouse Plant Sale are used to cover the cost of student registration for regional and state leadership activities; bus transportation; Future Farmers of America (FFA) jackets, ties and scarves; FFA supplies; refreshments for chapter meetings; as well as food and lodging for regional and state events.
Timberland High’s FFA chapter currently has 59 members. This year the students participated in several events including the Regional FFA Tractor Operation Safety Career Development, Fishing Camp, Lower State Region Soils, Wildlife Career Development, Greenhand Camp, the Lower State Agricultural Tool Identification and Leadership Career Development, and the South Carolina FFA Legislators Appreciation Day.
