BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–In 2016, an estimated 1,685,210 new cases of cancer will be diagnosed in the United States and 595,690 people will die from the disease.
According to the National Cancer Institute, the most common cancers in 2016 are projected to be breast cancer, lung and bronchus cancer, prostate cancer, colon and rectum cancer, bladder cancer, melanoma of the skin, non-Hodgkin lymphoma, thyroid cancer, kidney and renal pelvis cancer, leukemia, endometrial cancer, and pancreatic cancer.
In an effort to help save lives from the devastating disease, Roper St. Francis will have several surgeons and physicians on hand on April 20th at their Moncks Corner location. There, they’ll present the latest screening methods for breast, colorectal, prostate and lung cancers.
Attendees will also receive a personalized report to share with there own primary care doctor along with a home kit for colorectal screen testing.
In addition to this, Dr. Megan Baker with Roper St. Francis will also perform free clinical breast exams for attendees prior to the event. According to a hospital spokesperson, they currently have about 20 time slots available for the breast exams, but people must call in advance to make an appointment.
The event will take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Roper Hospital-Berkeley. The address is 730 Stoney Landing Road in Moncks Corner.
