Roper St. Francis will open five new practices in buildings formerly owned by Nason Medical Center.

Roper St. Francis has signed long-term leases for buildings in James Island, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston and Summerville. The Lowcountry’s largest healthcare system for adults plans to convert three of the properties into Express Care locations and is considering which services to offer at the other two sites. The expansion of Roper St. Francis services to the community is expected to create 100 jobs by the end of 2017.

The first site will open in August as an Express Care at 5133 Ladson Road in Summerville. Roper St. Francis leaders hope to open another Express Care at 8901 University Boulevard in North Charleston before the end of the year and at 319 Folly Road on James Island in early 2017.

“One of the most important services we provide is easy, affordable access to family care physicians,” said David Dunlap, president and chief executive officer of Roper St. Francis. “Residents who live or work near one of our Express Cares can walk in without an appointment and be seen quickly by a certified, experienced physician for less cost than at an area urgent care center.”

Patients can access Roper St. Francis Express Cares in the evenings and on weekends for the same co-pay as visiting a primary care physician.

Roper St. Francis officials say they have made significant strides in recent months to offer additional access to its broad network of physicians and services:

  • The Boeing Preferred Partnership option launched Jan. 1 for more than 6,000 Boeing teammates and their eligible dependents. The new Preferred Partnership option is offered exclusively through the doctors and hospitals of the Roper St. Francis Health Alliance, the first clinically integrated network (CIN) in the Tri-County area. This is the first time a healthcare system has partnered with a large private employer in the Lowcountry to improve and maintain the health of employees and their family members.
  • Roper St. Francis celebrated in August 2015 thegrand opening of three new Primary Care Partner and Express Care locations in and around Summerville. The new Primary Care Partners location at 1112 North Main Street shares a parking lot on the same side of the street with the new Roper St. Francis Express Care. Roper St. Francis also opened a primary care partner office at 9500 Dorchester Road near Westcott Plantation.
  • A new joint venture between Roper St. Francis and a nationally recognized physical therapy company acquired in December 2015 Rehabilitation Centers of Charleston, an eight-clinic outpatient, sports physical therapy practice. The joint venture,Roper St. Francis Physical Therapy powered by ATI, was announced in August. Roper St. Francis powered by ATI plans to add another seven locations in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties within the next few months.
  • Roper St. Francis announced in January that its new Roper St. Francis Berkeley Hospital will offer obstetrics, physical therapy, infusion therapy, radiology and imaging services, as well as an emergency department and pharmacy. A medical office building will be built next door on the 90-acre campus in Carnes Crossroads. The project is expected to create 285 new jobs in the Lowcountry, and the goal is for the new facility to be open to the community in 2019.
