CROSS, S.C.–Cross High School Building Construction Department, with Building Construction teacher David E. Sweat, Sr., have received a $5,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant for study and relaxation area.

Principal of Cross High, Adrian Busch, said, “Our school and community will greatly benefit from this grant. We would like to thank our friends at Lowe’s for generously supporting this important project.”

Lowe’s awarded Cross High funding to improve the school’s common area. The grant was submitted with the goal of improving the learning community as well as students’ carpentry skills. The improvement will provide a relaxing area for students, faculty and staff to sit, and enjoy the environment, while also providing a comfortable area where students may read.

CROSS GRANT 2

“I am extremely proud of my students, the work they do, and their passion for learning construction skills. With our growing county, construction will be a trade to learn and develop for many years. I am proud to be associated with the program, and equally as proud to be an educator at Cross High and in Berkeley County School District,” said David E. Sweat, Sr., Building Construction teacher at Cross High.

The common study and relaxation area is located adjacent to the school’s cafeteria. The space will include picnic tables for students to eat outside during lunch, and a green space with a flower garden for English students to read books outside during class on one of the benches made by the Building Construction class at Cross High.
