Deputies: Man Arrested Following Fire That Sent 2 Children, 2 Firefighters To Hospital

MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–According to Chief Deputy Mike Cochran with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, an arrest has been made following the fire that sent two children, an infant and 6-year-old, to the hospital Tuesday morning.

Two firefighters were also transported to the hospital. Their injuries are unknown, but they are not believed to be life threatening.

Cochran stated that Roderick Donte Nunley, the adult who lives at the home where the fire started, was arrested on a probation violation, an outstanding warrant and for providing false information to a deputy.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time, but the house is a total loss.

“The fire is being investigated by SLED for origin and causation,” stated Cochran. “The Sheriff’s Office will continue to investigate the case and will advise should additional charges be brought forward.”

According to firefighters, the fire started shortly after 10 a.m. at 148 Waterloo Drive in Moncks Corner.

Drivers were told to avoid Overton Road, Waterloo Drive and Ripple Avenue for several hours.

Crews didn’t clear the scene until after 4 p.m.

Santee Rural Fire Department was the lead agency responding.  They were assisted by Whitesville, Bonneau, Cordesville and Moncks Corner Rural.
