BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to authorities, the suspect wanted for an attempted armed robbery at the Church’s Chicken in Moncks Corner on Wednesday afternoon is now behind bars.
This suspect has been identified as 56-year-old Alfred Singleton of Moncks Corner.
On Wednesday around about 4:35 p.m. officers with the Goose Creek Police Department responded to the Speedway convenience store located at 509 N. Goose Creek Blvd. in reference to a hold-up alarm.
While on the way to the scene, officers say they were advised that the store had been robbed. According to store employees, Singleton approached the counter and handed the cashier a note that stated, “Give me all your money.” The cashier told police that Singleton had his left hand under his shirt as if he “had a gun.”
The cashier told officers that she handed Singleton all of the cash in the register before he then took off in a vehicle registered in his name.
Investigators say they determined that Singleton was also a suspect in an attempted armed robbery in the Town of Moncks Corner that occurred moments earlier.
Moncks Corner police officials say Singleton walked into the Church’s Chicken on Highway 52, handed an employee a note and demanded money.
According to police, the employee did not give the suspect the cash so he left.
Early Thursday morning, Singleton was stopped by the Charleston Police Department for a traffic violation and was taken into custody and turned over to GCPD.
Warrants were issued by the Goose Creek Police Department for armed robbery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping.
Singleton was taken for medical clearance then lodged at the Berkeley County Detention Center pending bond proceedings.
