DANIEL ISLAND, S.C.–Local golfers are now primed to take their game to Pebble Beach after winning the National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic at the Daniel Island Club on June 20.
The Delta Dental team consisting of Trippett Boineau, Sterling Davies and Spann Laffitte, all of Columbia, and Todd Smyth of Charleston, won the Handicap Division in the scramble format tournament.
The Daniel Island Realty team consisting of Gary Bernson, Greg Keating and George Kelley, all of Daniel Island, and Peter Oakes of Mount Pleasant won the Gross Division in the scramble format tournament.
Other top-finishing teams invited to the National Finals at Pebble Beach include two teams from Mungo Homes, the Summit Place of Daniel Island team and the South State Bank team.

Originally scheduled for June 6, this tournament was rescheduled due to weather. On June 20, over 84 local golfers teed off to raise funds to fight kidney disease at the NKF Golf Classic. The event generated more than $79,000 to support the National Kidney Foundation’s awareness, prevention and treatment programs. It also earned the three teams in each division invitations to play in the National Finals at the Pebble Beach Resorts in January 2017.
The tournament at the Daniel Island Club is one of over 30 events held around the country as part of the National Kidney Foundation Golf Classic series, the nation’s Premier Amateur Golf Event for Charity™.
To date, NKF Golf Classic participants have raised more than $90 million for the National Kidney Foundation.
