BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, deputies have arrested one person from the deadly home invasion on Martha Lane in Huger. The incident occurred early Thursday morning.
In custody is Kenneth Campbell, Jr., age 26, from Saint Stephen.
Chief Deputy Mike Cochran stated that Campbell was apprehended after he was located as part of the search efforts near Eccles Church Road in Huger.
“The tips from the community contributed to this apprehension efforts,” he stated.
Warrants have been obtained for Jacob Malachi Mouzon, age 17, from Bonneau and Drake Edward Campbell, age 18 from Saint Stephen for Burglary 1st degree, Armed Robbery and Murder with additional charges pending.
According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, the two known suspects from Thursday’s murder and extensive manhunt, Jacob Mouzon and Drake Campbell, have both been apprehended.
Agents from SLED and Berkeley County Sheriff’s K9 Unit apprehended the two in the woods off of Highway 41 on Friday. The apprehension location is about 4 miles from Sneed Creek Road.
The extensive manhunt took resources from SLED, DNR, the United States Marshalls Service and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. Their help was significant and greatly appreciated, Cochran stated.
“A special thanks goes to the citizens in the Huger and Cainoy areas who were so willing to assist in whatever way possible,” stated deputies. “The remaining two are at-large and detectives are continuing to work every angle so that these two can also be brought to justice.”
Kenneth Campbell, Jr. is being charged with the same offenses as well as the additional pending charges.
According to Chief Deputy Mike Cochran, around 2:30 a.m., a woman and man returned home to 135 Martha Lane in Huger.
When they arrived, five individuals approached them and forced them inside of the residence where an altercation took place, Cochran stated.
At some point, the male who lived at the residence, was shot. The Berkeley County Coroner’s Office has since identified him as 27-year-old Kadeem Johnson. An autopsy was scheduled for Friday at MUSC.
One shooting victim, the woman, is recovering and is expected to survive.
