BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A Lowcountry man charged with having child porn on his computer back in March 2014 has pleaded guilty and sentenced to three years behind bars.
Brian Paul Franz was arrested two years ago after an investigation initiated by Berkeley County Detective Lt. Murphy.
Franz has plead guilty to one count of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Second Degree and five counts of Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Third Degree before the Honorable Maite Murphy in Dorchester County.
According to authorities, Det. Lt. Murphy downloaded several video files containing minors engaged in sexual activity from an Internet Protocol (IP) address on March 27, 2014.
The investigation resulted in Franz being identified as the person responsible. Detectives with the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office worked the case for the actions that took place in their county.
A forensic examination revealed 90 videos of material depicting minors engaging in sexual activity.
Franz was sentenced to 10 years suspended to 3 years active time and 5 yearsâ probation. He received credit for 20 days of time served. He must register as a sex offender.
