BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A Georgia man is headed back home to “The Peach State” thanks to the generosity of a deputy with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
According to the sheriff’s office, a few weeks ago, Berkeley County Sheriff Deputy Corporal Mizzell recently met Joseph Daras after finding himself in “bad company” with another individual. Deputies stated that Daras was the passenger of a stolen vehicle.
The person driving the stolen vehicle had picked him up in Georgia and given him a ride to South Carolina – where he has been stranded ever since, deputies stated.
Down on his luck and determined to go home, deputies stated that Daras chose to start walking back to Georgia from the area of Trident Hospital.
On Tuesday, Corporal Mizzell saw Daras walking along I-26 near the Jedburg exit, nearly 25 miles from where had started from.
Daras had no means other than walking to get back to Georgia. This bothered the deputy, so he decided to help by purchasing Daras a one-way bus ticket back to his destination of Athens, Georgia.
You can tell by Daras’ face that he is happy to be heading home. 🙂
