DORCHESTER COUNTY, S.C.–A jury in Dorchester County found a Hanahan man guilty Thursday of brutally killing 28-year-old Ashley Pegram, a Summerville mother of three. She was last seen alive on April 3rd, 2015.
The judge sentenced Edward Bonilla to life in prison. Inside the courtroom, Bonilla stated that he prayed for Pegram’s family.
“Even though I’ve been convicted of murder, I still believe America has the greatest justice system,” he told the judge.

According to family members of the young woman, Pegram had gone on a date with Bonilla after meeting him on a social media dating site called ‘Kik.’
At the time of her disappearance, Bonilla allegedly told Pegram’s sister that during their date, Pegram became heavily intoxicated and that he “could not handle her.”
As a result, he stated that he kicked her out of his car around midnight on some “cut through street” possibly between the Kangaroo gas station and Piggly Wiggly on Main Street in Berkeley County.
About a month after her disappearance, the Dorchester County Coroner’s Office recovered Pegram’s body off of Brown Town Road–just outside of Harleyville.
In court, Bonilla testified that he put Pegram in a bear hug or choke hold and she fell to the ground dead.
