BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, detectives along with the Ninth Judicial Circuit Solicitor’s Office arrested Donald Blair Sr. for 3rd degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and sexual battery of a student 16 to 17 years old.

Authorities say detectives were investigating a complaint from a student in reference to a consensual sexual relationship between Blair and a female victim.

The investigation resulted in probable cause to believe that Blair engaged in a sexual relationship with the female student, then 15, in late 2014 and early 2015, investigators stated.

Chief Mike Cochran stated in a news release that the relationship reportedly took place on the grounds of Goose Creek High School, where Blair is the mechatronics teacher.

Blair was booked into the Hill Finklea Detention Center on Monday.

Following the arrest, the Berkeley County School District issued the following statement:

“District officials were informed by the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office that an employee, currently on administrative leave, has been charged in a matter involving a Goose Creek High School student. School and district officials have followed all procedures as outlined by district policy, taking immediate action upon learning of the allegations. As this does involve a matter of personnel, we are unable to share any additional details at this time. Please be assured that the safety and security of our students is of the utmost importance. As such, we are continuing to fully cooperate with law enforcement as they move forward with their investigation. If anyone has any concerns regarding the safety and security of any student or employee, please do not hesitate to contact school and/or district officials.”

Blair will face a judge in bond court on Tuesday morning.
