BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County School District’s class of 2016 was the first class required by the state to take the ACT as high school juniors.

As seniors, this class improved its composite score by .4 percentage points compared to their previous year’s results.

This growth from 17.5 to 17.9 is considered statistically significant, district leaders stated.

“Considering this is the first time an entire class has taken the ACT, we view it as baseline data which we will use to enhance our classroom focus on college and career ready standards. After several years of changing tests for high school students, we are excited that the ACT has been confirmed as the state test for 11th grade students over the next several years. Our district’s vision, to empower all students for success, will continue to drive our work with students, parents, community and post-secondary institutions to assure college and career readiness for our students,” said Dr. Kevin O’Gorman, Chief Academic Officer for Berkeley County School District.

The ACT is a nationally administered, standardized paper-and-pencil test that helps colleges evaluate candidates (kaptest.com).
