According to the Charleston Police Department, a former Berkeley County school bus driver is accused of having sex with a 14-year-old student who recently gave birth to his child.
Kevin Michael Wesley, Jr., 30, is charged with second and third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. A judge recently set bond at $400,000.
Berkeley County School District officials have confirmed that Wesley is no longer employed by BCSD and that they are fully cooperating with law enforcement.
The alleged incident reportedly occurred while Wesley was employed with the Charleston County School District.
Police say the student used to ride Wesley’s bus route for only about four months in 2015. However, he still maintained contact with her even after she left his route. Over time, police say he persuaded her to sneak out of her home to secretly meet him. Authorities say eventually he also convinced the teen to begin a sexual relationship with him.
The teen eventually told her mother about the improper relationship, according to an incident report. Investigators say the victim gave birth to Wesley’s child on September 17th.
In court, Wesley told the judge he is currently unemployed. Until his recent arrest, he was also a member of the Charleston County Volunteer Rescue Squad. However, squad officials confirm he has since been suspended from the organization.
As of September 30th, Wesley remains behind bars inside the Charleston County Detention Center.
