BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–For the second time in almost two years, more than a dozen first responders were called to a structure fire at the the Viva SC recycling plant at 1620 Cypress Gardens Road in Moncks Corner.
Crews were dispatched shortly after 10 p.m. and were met with heavy smoke coming from inside the building.
The cause of the fire has not been determined but remains under investigation.
No word on the extent of the damage.
In December 2014, officials stated that three plant workers had to be transported to the hospital for smoke inhalation after an early morning fire broke out.
Viva SC Recycling collects, processes and recycles used tire and post-industrial rubber waste which is in turn processed into environmentally friendly products that are marketed nationwide.
There are about 15 different fire departments on scene as well for the structure fire. #chsnews #BerkeleyCounty pic.twitter.com/c4Be0ZEkC1
