BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–J.K. Gourdin Elementary School, located at 1649 Highway 45 in Pineville, received a $5,600 Rack Room Shoes That Fit award for the third year in a row.

“I am overwhelmed with joy that our students were selected to receive the shoes. I am grateful to the management at Rack Room Shoes Store #629 for reaching out to us, and seeing the need to provide shoes in order for our students to attend school in comfort, and with confidence and dignity,” said J.K. Gourdin Elementary School principal, Lorene Bradley.

In 2014, J.K. Gourdin Elementary School art teacher, Marin Acuff, shared information with school leadership about the Rack Room Shoes That Fit program. The school submitted an application for the program, and was awarded $1,970.

That year the school issued more than 55 pairs of shoes to students before they left for winter holiday break. During the 2015 academic year, the school was award $3,038, and issued more than 80 pairs of shoes to students.

“With the $5,600 we will receive this year, we may be able to offer our entire population of students receiving free and/or reduced priced meals the option of receiving a pair of shoes in December,” said Bradley. “We are hoping that no less than 90 percent of the population will go home with a pair of shoes.”

Rack Room Shoes partners with Shoes That Fit to provide shoes to children in need. Funds are collected at local Rack Room stores and benefit children in that particular community. The more money raised, the more resources are available to purchase shoes for students (www.rackroomgives.com/shoes-that-fit.html).
