MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–A Moncks Corner homeowner has gotten into the Halloween spirit by recreating Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” in her front lawn.
“I have always loved Michael Jackson and his music,” said homeowner, Janie Martin. “People of all ages know who he was and know the song Thriller.”
The house, located on Old Black Oak Road, is decked out with zombies, skeletons, headstones, and of course, MJ himself, as “Thriller” plays on an outside stereo. Everything is mostly hand made. Although, Martin says she’ll dress up as a zombie.
“The main questions I am asked is, where do you store all of it?” said Martin.
The display is the effort of years of hard work. Although it’s the first year for the spectacle at her Moncks Corner home, the display has been featured for the last seven years at Martin’s family camping site in in Myrtle Beach.
“Some people were glad I was staying at home this year to do this so their kids could see it,” she said. “We have neighborhood kids riding their bikes through and a good many cars. Some just ride through quickly and some take their time, getting out to take photos or video and thanking us as we sit on the porch to watch and run the fog machines.”
Martin has created a Facebook page to spread the word about “Thriller” drive thru.
“I want others to know that Halloween is not all blood and gore and pagan or devil worship,” said Martin. “It can be a family event and it is just theatrics and fun, a time to be something you normally would not be.”
Of course, Martin says none of this would be possible without the help of her supportive husband.
“Al plays a huge role in supporting my craziness. He makes sure I don’t blow fuses by running too many lights and he is my official “grave digger” always taking pride in the dirt mounds that are perfectly shaped like graves,” she said.
Anyone is invited to come out and see. The house is located at 1030 Old Black Oak Road.
