BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A Moncks Corner man driving a U-Haul is behind bars following a chase with law enforcement, according to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
On Saturday, deputies say they received a BOLO in reference to a driver of a U-Haul truck driving in a reckless manner.
Berkeley County sheriff deputies say they located the U-Haul in question along South Live Oak Drive in Moncks Corner and attempted to conduct a lawful traffic stop on said vehicle.
Deputies say the U-Haul truck failed to stop for them and continued traveling down Highway 17A toward Summerville. Deputies successfully utilized tire deflation devices which caused the U-Haul to slow down.
Chief Deputy Mike Cochran stated that the U-Haul then turned onto Highway 176 and suspect was taken into custody near the intersection of Highway 176 and Cooper Store Road without any other issues.
The driver of the U-Haul, Taalib Din Caliph, 38, of Moncks Corner was arrested for Driving Under Suspension while his license was suspended for DUI, 3rd or subsequent offense with a bond of $2,105, Reckless driving with a bond of $440, Failure to stop for blue lights and siren, no injury or death, 1st offense with a bond of $5,000 and a warrant for child support nonpayment with no bond set for that offense.
