BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Good news for Berkeley Electric Coop members. BEC officials announced Thursday that members will not see any rate increases in the coming year.
CEO Dwayne Cartwright originally made the announcement during its ‘Annual Meeting of Members’ on Saturday, November 12th at the Exchange Park Fairgrounds in Ladson.
Cartwright also highlighted the cooperative’s numerous community initiatives such as the American Red Cross Smoke Alarm program and the Bright Ideas Teacher Grants – through which the Cooperative awarded $14,000 to local teachers for classroom projects.
Other business included the election of three trustees for the Cooperative’s nine-member board. At this year’s meeting 9,161 members voted in the trustee elections. The results of the trustee elections were as follows:
• District 2: Carol Caddell (incumbent) – 3.348
Ronald Wiggins (challenger) – 2,795
Juanita Middleton (challenger) – 2,345
• District 5: George McFadden (incumbent) – unopposed
• District 8: Harry Brunson (incumbent) – unopposed
Berkeley Electric Cooperative is Touchstone Energy Cooperative and is the largest member-owned electric cooperative in the state with over 97,000 member-accounts in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.
