BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Mount Pleasant police recently announced an arrest in connection with the deadly collision that occurred on the Isle of Palms Connector over the weekend.
Joseph Granger, 52, of Virginia has been charged with Felony DUI.
Police say the Virginia man is currently being treated at MUSC for his injuries following the crash. After his release from the hospital, He’s expected to be transported to the Charleston County Detention Center to be booked, according to police.
On Sunday, at approximately 4:08 p.m., officers from the Mount Pleasant Police Department responded to the IOP Connector and Riviera Drive in reference to a collision.
According to police, a motorcycle was heading towards the Isle of Palms on the connector when Granger’s vehicle turned left off of Riviera Drive into the path of the motorcycle.
The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified the motorcyclist as Zachary Grooms, 23, of Hanahan.
He reportedly died on scene of blunt force trauma.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 15, 2016 at 4:00 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church in Hartsville.
