GOOSE CREEK, S.C.—Goose Creek police are actively looking for two suspects involved in the late-night armed robbery of the Super Walmart on St. James Avenue.
Shortly after 11:00 p.m. on Wednesday, police say two individuals wearing dark-colored hoodies and dark pants entered the store with AK47 style rifles and fired several shots.
Customers and store employees quickly evacuated the store, according to witnesses.
The suspects eventually exited the store and attempted to leave the area on foot, stated police. Witnesses say the two suspects were last seen running along the exterior of the store near the rear of the building.
Prior to the armed robbery, police say the targeted victim told officers that she and another store employee were walking to the self check out area to restock the registers. As she opened the currency wagon, she told police that she heard a gunshot.
She stated that she was then approached by two unknown men. One them, the victim claims, pointed a rifle towards her and then pointed it to the ceiling and opened fire.
The second suspect then fired his rifle towards the ceiling, the victim told police.
She then told officers that the suspects began yelling at people to lie on the ground and demanded that she open the currency wagon. According to the incident report, a third shot was then fired. The victim reportedly stepped out of the way as one of the suspects began to grab several break-down bags from inside the wagon.
The victim told police that one of the suspects also began to demand that she open more of the carts and open the registers, to which she explained she was not able to open anything else. That’s when the two suspects left the store through the grocery exit.
Walmart re-opened Thursday at 8:00 a.m. for business.
Fortunately, no employees or customers were injured in the armed robbery.
