BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Molina Healthcare of South Carolina recently celebrated the good deeds of six community heroes at its second annual Community Champions Awards.  One of this year’s winners included Moncks Corner resident John Flenory.

According to event organizers, Flenory is a respected, quiet leader who has used his experiences as a father and grandfather to support and nurture dozens of children in the community. These youth are excited to show off their homework assignments to him or talk about their extracurricular activities with him, which attests to the positive impact he has on their lives.

Flenory is also an active volunteer with Habitat for Humanity of Berkeley County. Since 2014, he has selflessly donated more than 50 hours of his time each month helping build three new houses, donating construction supplies and providing cold drinking water to the Habitat’s weekend crews.

Molina Healthcare officials say that Flenory strives to make sure the community is safe by conducting neighborhood watches and street clean-ups. He also serves on his neighborhood coalition, which hosts monthly meetings with the goal of improving the community.

“Molina proudly recognize the hard work of this year’s Community Champions,” said Thomas Lindquist, president of Molina Healthcare of South Carolina, “It was a pleasure honoring John for his dedication to serving those in need in the community.”

The Community Champions program celebrates the vision of Dr. C. David Molina, the founder of Molina Healthcare, as well as community partners who work together to care for society’s most vulnerable individuals. Each Community Champion was nominated by a community-based organization and also received a $1,000 grant to give to a deserving nonprofit organization of his/her choice.

Flenory will donate his $1,000 grant to Habitat for Humanity of Berkeley County.
