MACEDONIA, S.C.–A large fire that threatened nearby homes and generated a lot of heavy smoke in the Macedonia area near Harristown Road and Betsy Hole Road is now under control, according to a spokesperson for the S.C. Forestry Commission.
“We have two forestry commission units on scene in addition to a local fire department that has responded,” stated Doug Wood, a public information officer for the forestry commission.
Wood stated that as of 1:07 p.m. Monday, crews had the fire under control, preventing it from spreading further. The size of the fire is currently about three acres, according to Wood.
At this time, officials aren’t sure what caused the fire but they are investigating.
“Usually a fire investigation won’t determine the cause until later, unless it is simply obvious what started the fire,” stated Wood.
