MONCKS CORNER, SC- Berkeley County Government is inviting Vietnam War veterans to attend a special County Council meeting on May 22, where they will be pinned with a Vietnam Veteran lapel pin and thanked for their service and sacrifice.
The ceremony will start at 6 p.m. in Council Chambers, located at 1003 Highway 52 in Moncks Corner.
The ceremony is part of ongoing efforts across the United States to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the more than decade-long war that resulted in the death of 58,000 U.S. troops. Of those, 896 were from South Carolina.
“Berkeley County is home to many Vietnam veterans who made big sacrifices during a tumultuous time in our nation’s history,” said Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler. “No words will ever fully show the gratitude due for their service; however, in the spirit of thanks, during the ongoing anniversary of the Vietnam War, it is an honor to present them with a token of our gratitude for their sacrifices on behalf of our Nation.”
Veterans are asked to R.S.V.P for the event by emailing: [email protected] or calling 843-729-4265.
