BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Authorities with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office say they’ve finally arrested a man who previously managed to successfully evade deputies during multiple high-speed chases over the course of two weeks.
However, thanks to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office K9 division, detectives and members of the U.S. Marshals task force, Anthony Rex Hyatt is finally behind bars.
Hyatt was being sought for charges from Charleston County Sheriff’s Office for Failure to Stop for Blue lights as well as Assault and Battery 3rd degree.
The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from concerned citizens that Hyatt was in the Windwood Area of Berkeley County. Officers encountered Hyatt on a golf cart traveling on Tillman Branch road. Once officers went to make contact with Hyatt a foot chase ensued but Hyatt was not fast enough. Hyatt was taken into custody on McLaurin Avenue in the area of Bo Lane.
Hyatt was transported to the Al Cannon Detention Center in Charleston County and booked with a hold for pending Berkeley County Charges.
During the search for Hyatt the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office arrested or cited at least a dozen of Hyatt’s associates.
