ST. STEPHEN, S.C.–More than a dozen fire departments rushed to an early morning commercial fire in the heart of St. Stephen Saturday.
The fire, which occurred before 2:30 a.m., forced several roads to be temporarily shut down as fire fighters battled the flames.
Some homeowners were left without power for several hours.
Departments responding to the blaze included St. Stephen Fire, Santee Circle Rural, Eadytown, Pineville-Russellville, Alvin, Forty-One, Bonneau Rural, Pineridge, Whitesville and Moncks Corner Rural.
EMS and St. Stephen Police and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office also responded to the scene.
“Every person on that scene did an awesome job and because of the hard work and safe work they put, everyone will be returning home,” read a social media post by Santee Circle Rural.
The fire occurred at the old Keller Hardware store in downtown St. Stephen on Main Street. The building was reportedly being used currently for storage.
At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Fortunately, there were no injuries.
