GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–This week GCPD was notified by the S.C. Department of Public Safety (SCDPS) Office of Highway Safety and Justice Programs that it was awarded $120,440 to fund one dedicated DUI enforcement officer for one year.
In addition to the full salary and fringe benefits, the funding will pay for the patrol vehicle and all associated vehicle and personal equipment.
The grant officer will spend 100% of their working hours patrolling and observing for motorists operating under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The vehicle will be marked and will bear the SCDPS “Target Zero” and South Carolina Law Enforcement Network decals.
The grant period begins October 1st and will end September 30th, 2018. GCPD officials say it takes traffic safety seriously and hopes this program will help prevent any future traffic fatalities within the city.
