MONCKS CORNER, S.C. – From Sept. 25 through Oct. 15, Santee Cooper will conduct helicopter applications of Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) approved herbicides to control giant cutgrass in Lake Moultrie.
These applications should improve lake access for residential and commercial properties and improve recreational opportunities and wildlife habitats within the Santee Cooper Lakes system.
To notify boaters of spray operations, Santee Cooper employees will patrol the spray sites on airboats and post signage at public and commercial boat landings near the targeted locations.
Lake users are asked to avoid the following areas during these operations:
- Berkeley County: Crappie Neck, Pintail Island, Bass Island, backwater areas south of Cross subdivision, backwater areas adjacent to Quattlebaum slough and Sandy Beach, areas within SCDNR Hatchery Wildlife Management Area, and areas within the Jungle east of Raccoon Island
Questions concerning these operations can be directed to Santee Cooper’s Biological Services unit at 843-761-4078.
