GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–GCPD investigators say they have arrested three teens for the September 21st shooting of 79-year-old Joan Dixon on Pecan Grove Ave.
Dequian Dawson, 17; Joshua Smith, 18; and Christopher Burnell, 19, have all been charged with attempted murder.
“Investigators are continuing to attempt to identify a reported fourth suspect that may have been in the suspect vehicle,” stated Major John Grainger. “We are told that Ms. Dixon’s condition is improving.”
Police say the investigation determined that a person known to Dixon’s grandson was in a group in front of the woman’s home which is where the shot originated.
Police say that Dixon’s grandson, Xavier Dixon, was the intended target.
According to the affidavit, the woman’s grandson told police that Christopher Burnell threatened online that he would kill him for “providing his girlfriend with an escort to and from work.”
Burnell and the other suspects reportedly travelled to the house and fired multiple rounds into the house. One of the bullets penetrated the front door, striking Joan Dixon in her right shoulder. The vehicle then sped off in the direction of Delmont Drive.
GCPD investigators are requesting anyone with additional information about this case to contact GCPD at (843) 572-4300 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.
