GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–An arrest has been made in the home invasion and sexual assault of an 81-year-old woman.
GCPD investigators stated that they worked Friday night into the early morning hours of Saturday to identify and apprehend the suspect responsible for Thursday’s incident that occurred in the Cadbury subdivision.
Investigators have identified and arrested Aaron Capers, an 18-year-old, who had ties to a residence near the victim’s residence. Capers was taken into custody at a North Charleston residence with the assistance of Dorchester County deputies at approximately 5:25 a.m.
Capers was booked into the Berkeley County Detention Center on charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree, Burglary 1st Degree, Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime, and Armed Robbery with a Deadly Weapon. He was served with the warrant for Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree. Service of additional warrants is pending.
The investigative work in this case is far from over, police say. Investigators, however, are confident that Goose Creek residents can rest easier knowing Capers is in custody.
“Our focus remains on our victim and providing the best advocacy to her and assuring that every ounce of evidence is collected to support a successful prosecution,” stated Major John Grainger. “We are still asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact GCPD at (843) 572-4300 or Crime Stoppers at (843) 554-1111.”
During the home invasion a few days ago, police say an elderly female was forced at knife-point to perform a sexual act on a black male suspect then was robbed of cash and financial cards.
Police say the female escaped the residence as the suspect was attempting to force her into her automobile in the garage of the residence.
She fled to a neighbor’s home where GCPD was contacted.
After the incident in Cadbury, police say the subject pictured was traveling in a vehicle from which an occupant used the victim’s financial card at the Speedway convenience store on Dorchester Rd.
The subject was seen arriving and leaving the convenience store in a white late model Ford Focus.
