HANAHAN, S.C.–Two firefighters were rushed to the hospital following injuries they sustained while responding to an accident Wednesday morning, according to Hanahan officials.
The accident occurred around 9 a.m. on Henry Brown Boulevard.
According to authorities, both firefighters were responding to an accident on the North Rhett Avenue bridge when another responding fire truck came onto the bridge and began to spin after sliding on ice and losing control.
The fire truck struck one of the firefighters before colliding with another vehicle on the scene, city officials stated. Fortunately, he did not suffer any broken bones.
A second firefighter reportedly jumped over the side of the bridge and into a freezing body of water to avoid being hit, however, he injured his ankle in the process.
Both were transported to the hospital along with two people from the car accident they were responding to.
South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
