BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–An elementary school in Berkeley County is on lockdown following law enforcement activity in the area.
J K Gourdin Elementary School went on lockdown shortly before 8 a.m. Thursday morning.
The school is located in Pineville.
“Right now we are assisting Orangeburg and the Colleton County Sheriff’s Office,” stated Chief Mike Cochran with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
A school district spokesperson said that the lockdown is a precautionary measure to ensure student safety as authorities search for a suspect in the area.
