DANIEL ISLAND, S.C.–Proceeds from last year’s 9/11 Heroes Run on Daniel Island recently benefited two Lowcountry first responder organizations.

North Charleston Fire Department and Summerville Fire & Rescue were both beneficiaries of the 6th annual race which took place in November.

“Summerville Fire & Rescue greatly appreciates the generous donation made by the 9/11 Heroes Run. This donation will be put to good use allowing our department to better educate the public in the areas of fire prevention,” stated Chief Richard Waring, Summerville Fire & Rescue.

“We are happy to support this wonderful event that honors the service and sacrifice of our military personnel and first responders. The funds we received from the 9/11 Heroes Run will help us to enhance our capability to provide service to our community,” stated Greg Bulanow, North Charleston Fire Department Chief.

Over 1,000 runners, walkers, volunteers and supporters participated in the 2017 event.

This week, race organizers presented each department with their portion of the proceeds, and they each received a check in the amount of $12,160.

An additional $24,321 went back to supporting our nation’s veterans and Gold Star families, through the amazing programs offered by the Travis Manion Foundation.

Race organizers say that these donations would not be possible without the support of our amazing sponsors, runners, walkers, planning committee members, and the community as a whole.
