BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Two suspects are now in custody following a deputy-involved shooting Thursday morning.
Deputies first arrested Ricky DeWayne Johnson, 32, after they say he shot at deputies around 2 a.m. Thursday, according to BCSO spokesman Mike Cochran.
The good news is no deputy was injured during the shooting, however, the same can’t be said for Johnson.
“The subject has been shot,” stated Chief Mike Cochran. “No further details are available.”
The incident forced the closure of Highway 17A by College Park Road.

The two were last known to be in the Cross area of Berkeley County.
A school lockdown originally placed on Cross Elementary earlier has since been lifted.
Early Thursday morning, deputies attempted to stop a black Chevy Avalanche for an equipment violation near Main Street and College Park Road.
When the vehicle didn’t stop, Chief Cochran stated that a pursuit led deputies from Myers Road into the Wind Gate mobile home park.
A second person, Vanessa Jo Bapp, 32, has also been arrested in connection with the case.
Deputies say Bapp and Johnson eventually abandoned the stolen vehicle and fled on foot, but not before shots were fired at a deputy.
Charges are pending.
K-9 Units along with the C.C.S.O. Aviation Unit assisted in the search for the suspects.
