GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Goose Creek Police Chief Harvey Becker recently called on all Goose Creek area residents to join the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital “Making a Difference for St. Jude” Bike-A-Thon slated for Saturday, April 14th beginning at 9:00 a.m. at the lake and hiker-biker trail behind Goose Creek City Hall. This year marks the 33rd annual event.
Riders are needed for this Bike-A-Thon to raise funds for the world-famous research center in its battle against childhood cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases. “We’re looking for riders of all ages who will contribute their time and talent to help children live. We really need lots of riders, since they are the ones who can make this Bike-A-Thon successful,” Becker said.
In the “Making a Difference for St. Jude” Bike-A-Thon, riders ask sponsors to make a donation based on each mile completed, or offer a one-time gift. “Everyone can take pride in giving children a chance to live a normal life,” Becker said.
Since the hospital opened in 1962 nearly one hundred and fifty children and families from South Carolina have received treatment from St. Jude. Currently, more than forty children from South Carolina are receiving treatment from St. Jude.
If you are interested in participating in the bike-a-thon, sponsor forms are available in the police department lobby. If you would like to make a donation or sponsor a rider, please call Chief Harvey Becker at 843-863-5200 ext. 2309, or donate to this event online at www.cityofgoosecreek.com then click on the police home page and locate the St. Jude link.
