Stratford High Renames Softball Field after Former Softball Head Coach

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–The administration of Stratford High School recently renamed the Stratford High School softball field after former softball head coach, Debra Tolar on Thursday.

Coach Tolar boasts an impressive 31-year coaching career, including 28 years as a Knight. This event was rescheduled due to the conditions of today’s weather.

Coach Tolar’s professionalism and commitment to her student athletes allowed her to win 728 games, including 99 playoff wins, making her the second winningest high school softball head coach in South Carolina. She led her teams to 28 state playoff appearances resulting in two South Carolina state championships. Coach Tolar won a remarkable 19 regional championships, including an astonishing streak of nine consecutive championships from 2001 to 2010.

“Coach Debra Tolar is more than deserving of having this honor bestowed upon her,” said SHS Principal Heather Taylor. “In recognition of her professional accomplishments and in remembrance of the mark she left on her players, I am honored to name our softball field after a local hero who made such an impact on players all across Berkeley County.”

Coach Tolar was recognized throughout her accomplished career with three State Coach of the Year awards. Additionally, she was awarded Regional Coach of the Year 18 times, and she won the High School Sports Report AAAA Softball Coach of the Year twice. Coach Tolar was also awarded the National Federation of High Schools Southeast Softball Coach of the Year and the 2016 South Carolina Umpires Association Coach of the Year.

In recognition of her steadfast dedication to softball, outstanding professional career, and lasting influence on high school student athletes, Coach Tolar was also awarded the High School Sports Report Lifetime Achievement Award.
