Deputies: Teen Arrested after Bringing Marijuana, Gun to Goose Creek High

VIA BERKELEY COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–A local teen is behind bars after Berkeley County deputies say he brought ammunition, gun and marijuana to school.

According to the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office, a school resource officer at Goose Creek High School was notified by a school administrator of concerning behavior of a student that occurred at the end of the day Tuesday, May 1st. The student in question was not in school on Wednesday, May 2nd and could not be located by the SROs or deputies.

The student in question returned to school Thursday and was located by the SRO. The SRO spoke with the student regarding the concerning behavior. The behavior was described as the student making the shape of a gun with his hand while making a ‘pop’ noise. While talking with the student it was determined that the student had driven to school that morning.

When the SRO deputy went to the vehicle parked out front of the school, the odor of fresh marijuana was evident and emitting from the vehicle. The student provided consent to search the vehicle. A search of the black Ford Fiesta 4-door was conducted whereupon a bag of a green plant-like substance was located. The substance was field tested presumptive to be marijuana. Under the passenger’s seat was a Glock, Model 19 pistol along with two loaded magazines and a partial box of ammunition. The gun itself was not loaded.

The student, Julio Cesar Jimenez-Turrubiate, age 19 of Redbank Road in Goose Creek, was arrested and transported to the Hill Finklea Detention Center pending warrant service and a bond hearing. The bond hearing will be at 9 a.m. on the May 4th.

“It is fortunate that the school administration notified the SRO. This provided us the opportunity to review the situation and assess the threat. Thankfully nobody was harmed and the student has been removed from the campus,” state Sheriff Duane Lewis.
