HANAHAN, S.C.–Hanahan City leaders were inundated with phone calls Monday morning regarding a rumored shooting at Hanahan High School.
A spokesperson for the Berkeley County School District took to Facebook to address the inaccurate information.
“We are aware that a rumor is circulating that an incident has occurred at Hanahan High School,” read the post. “This rumor is unfounded. Hanahan High remains a safe learning environment. No incident has occurred that threatens the safety and security of the campus. If you see a post indicating otherwise, please partner with us to help assure other parents and the community that the rumor is not true.”
That rumor, unfortunately, was also followed by another one pertaining to an alleged terrorist attack on Henry Brown Blvd.
Dispatchers fielded the calls.
It’s not clear how the two rumors started, however, city leaders took to social media to set the record straight that neither have any merit to them.
Should there be a real emergency, you’re asked to call 9-1-1. For more information, you can contact the city’s non-emergency line at 843-747-5711.
