Berkeley County EMS to Put Two Additional Ambulances in Service

Medic 23 is a peak-hour ambulance that will be deployed in the vicinity of Highway 52, near Cypress Gardens Road. This ambulance will operate on 12-hour shifts, and will be in service from 11 a.m. until 11 p.m.

Medic 9 is a 24-hour ambulance that will be stationed on Meyers Road, near US 17 A.

“We are fulfilling our promises to the people of Berkeley County,” said Berkeley County Supervisor Bill Peagler. “These new ambulances and their respective schedules will put our emergency response professionals where they’re most needed, when they’re most needed. These additions show full deployment of all units for this fiscal year and is further proof that public safety is a top priority in Berkeley County.”

These additions are the third and fourth advanced life support (ALS) ambulances to be added to Berkeley County this budget year. The first was added in February 2018 in the Four Seasons neighborhood in Cane Bay. The second was added in April 2018 near US 17A and US 176 in Moncks Corner. Additionally, a second Battalion Chief assigned to an Advanced Life Support Quick Response Vehicle (QRV) was added in October 2017 to assist crews with high acuity patients and to reduce patient times to access advanced life support care.

These new ambulances continue the investment Berkeley County Council agreed to in the 2017-2018 budget to add four ambulances to the department. The new additions will provide support for Berkeley County’s EMS medical professionals and assure emergencies are more efficiently answered.
