Deputies: Huger Man Found in Possession of Stolen Checks from Outgoing Mail

BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A recent traffic stop led deputies to finding a Huger man in possession of stolen mail.

Early Sunday morning, a deputy with the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office was patrolling when they stopped a silver Hyundai Sonata after observing a strong odor of burning marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The occupants stated that there was marijuana on the floorboard. The deputy observed a .40 caliber bullet on the floorboard as well. The occupants stated that there was a Glock in the glove box. Both occupants were removed from the vehicle while it was searched.

The passenger, Daquan Marquel Laval Kinloch (22 of Highway 41 in Huger) was found to be in possession of multiple checks from different sources and different debit cards that were not in his name. Some of the checks were determined to have been stolen from outgoing mail in the City of Charleston. Some of the items we were not able to determine where they were stolen from.

The Charleston Police Department assisted by contacting one of the people whose checks were in Kinloch’s possession. They stated that they had put them in envelopes and then put them in the mail.

Kinloch was found to be in possession of 8 grams of a green, plant like substance that field tested presumptive to be marijuana. He was arrested and transported to the Hill Finklea Detention Center pending bond court. He was charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana and two counts of Receiving Stolen Goods. He was granted a PR bond in the amount of $4,865 pending court on June 20th.
