BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Voters have chosen Leah Guerry Dupree as Berkeley County’s next clerk of court in Tuesday’s Republican primary.
Dupree, a political newcomer, defeated Annette Harmon Bianchi, the current Chief Deputy Clerk of Court for Berkeley County.
Unofficial results show that Dupree received 56.84 percent (8,371 ballots casts) of the vote compared to Bianchi’s 43.16 percent of the vote (6,356 ballots cast). That’s with 97 percent of the precincts reporting as of Wednesday morning.
Long-time Clerk of Court Mary Brown did not seek re-election but had endorsed Bianchi for her position.
Four years ago, Dupree unsuccessfully ran against Brown. The second time proved to be the charm.
A lifelong resident of Berkeley County, Dupree has spent the last 20 years in the circuit and family court rooms – ensuring efficiency in the courtrooms she served and maintaining organized records.
As clerk of court, Dupree has stated that she plans to “make the Clerk’s office the organized, proficient, and professional agency we deserve.”
