HANAHAN, S.C.–A new school in Berkeley County welcomed students for the 2018-2019 school year over the weekend.
Over Sunday, the Hahanan community celebrated the official opening of Bowen’s Corner Elementary School.
It is one of two new elementary schools serving BCSD students and families. Foxbank Elementary in Moncks Corner is the second.
Aimee Fulmer will serve as the principal for the new school. She previously served as principal of Westview Elementary School and assistant principal of Berkeley Intermediate School. She has been with the district for more than 20 years. She also serves as SCASA President of the Elementary Principal’s Executive Committee.
“I’m very excited, honored and humbled that they chose me to open up the brand new school,” Fulmer said. It’s exciting to set the culture for Bowen’s Corner, to get the year off to a great start, and to be the new part of an old community. I’m just so honored that they picked me to open up a brand new school and create an environment for kids and teachers to soar.”
The new school will serve the Tanner/Foster Creek Area for grades pre-K through 5th grade. According to BCSD, the 99,263 square feet school will accommodate approximately 780 students with room to expand up to 900 students.
The project is estimated to have cost the Berkeley County School District approximately $22 million.
