GOOSE CREEK, S.C.–Goose Creek Police responded to the Mevers School of Excellence Thursday after they say student became unruly and attached staff.
According to Major John Grainger, at 3:30 p.m. GCPD communications received a 911 call for assistance at the school regarding a student committing an assault on staff members.
Officers arrived and after a struggle were able to restrain and secure the 13-year-old male student.
Officers determined that the student became unruly after having his cell phone taken then assaulted several staff members and fellow students.
During the struggle, one officer was bitten on his hand.
A second officer is being treated for having been spit upon in the eye, Grainger added.
There are no reported injuries by staff or students.
The student in question has been taken into protective custody and is being transported for medical evaluation. His parent has been notified.
“The incident will be fully investigated and a determination on charges, if any, will be made in the near future,” stated Grainger.
