BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Two people have drowned after their boat overturned in the water over the weekend.
On Sunday, Aug 26 at 6:57 p.m., a 9-1-1 dispatcher received a call that four young men found an overturned boat near the hatchery boat landing in Lake Moultrie.
Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury stated that one male was holding onto the boat and was rescued by boaters. Also found near the overturned boat was 56-year-old Constance Brown and her son, 20-year-old Benjamin Brown.
All three were transported to the boat landing where they met by Berkeley County EMS. Mr. and Mrs. Brown were pronounced dead at the landing.
The third gentlemen was transported to a local hospital and released after treatment.
An investigation is being conducted by the Berkeley County Coroner’s Office and SCDNR with the assistance of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office.
The coroner has ruled both deaths as an accidental drowning. This is the 4th and 5th drowning in Berkeley County this year, according to the coroner.
