MONCKS CORNER, S.C.–One of the oldest plantations in the Lowcountry officially has a new owner.

The historic plantation was recently purchased by Tony Kiser of New York. He is the founder of DesignFind, Inc., a photo-sharing app. He also serves as president of the William and Mary Greve Foundation. The organization funds activities in public education, the arts, religious tolerance, open space protection, and city planning.

Mulberry Plantation had been up for sale since 2015 with an original asking price of $17.5 million. The previous owner, Gail Parker, decided to sell the home shortly after the pass of her 81-year-old husband, Parker Gilbert. He was a former Morgan Stanley chairman. The couple had purchased the home for $2.55 million along with 800 acres in 1988.

The main house, which has been referred to as Mulberry Castle was built by Thomas Broughton who became the royal governor of South Carolina in 1735. The house was considered old by the time of The America Revolution. Constructed in 1714 on the highest point in the area the house is the third oldest in South Carolina.

The plantation consists of 1,705 acres on the Cooper River.

To help protect and preserve the plantation, Mulberry has conservation easements with Historic Charleston Foundation and Lord Berkeley Conservation Trust.

Plantation Services, Inc. handled the transaction of the 300-year-old plantation.

Mulberry Plantation is located off Old Highway 52 on North Mulberry Road near Oakley in Moncks Corner.
