BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–As a result of Governor Henry McMaster’s mandatory evacuation order issued during the 2:30 p.m. press conference, all Berkeley County School District schools and offices will close Tuesday, September 11, 2018, to allow students, staff, and their families time to prepare for the potential impact of Hurricane Florence. Schools and offices will remain closed, per the governor’s order, until further notice.
Essential personnel including maintenance and facilities, technology, school administrators, Superintendent’s cabinet and their designated support staff, school custodians and cafeteria managers will report Tuesday morning and be released by 11 a.m. to prepare schools for the impending weather.
All afterschool activities and sporting events to take place on Tuesday, September 11, and through the end of the week, are canceled and information concerning rescheduling will be released when it becomes available. Additionally, all after-school daycare programs will also be canceled beginning Tuesday, September 11, and will continue to be canceled through the end of the week.
District officials are continuing to work closely with Berkeley County Emergency Preparedness Center to monitor the hurricane and potential impact on the county. Officials are also receiving regular updates from the National Weather Service.
Officials will continue to closely monitor this weather event and will communicate with parents, staff, and the community as frequently as possible about any changes or additional closures.
