BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Two firefighters have been rushed to a local hospital following injuries they sustained while responding to a house fire in Berkeley County.
According to the Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department, around 10:30 a.m. firefighters began working a structure fire on Big Nick Lane.
First arriving unit reported heavy fire from a single family dwelling.
Crews on the scene later confirmed a portion of the structure collapsed with two firefighters transported to the hospital.
The pair were then taken to Trident Medical Center with minor injuries, but one did reportedly break their ankle, according to Live 5 News.

At about 10:30 a.m. Berkeley County dispatch received a call about a structure fire at 228 Big Nick Lane in Moncks Corner. Moncks Corner Rural Fire Department, Moncks Corner City Fire Department and Whitesville Fire Department initially responded to the fire at the house. When crews arrived the fire was fully involved.
Fifteen minutes into treating the fire, the front of the house collapsed and trapped two firefighters with Whitesville Fire Department. The firefighters were safely extricated and transported to Trident Medical Center. One firefighter will be having surgery for a broken ankle, the other will soon be released from the hospital.
Later, a firefighter with Moncks Corner Fire Department went to the hospital and was treated for burns.
It took one hour for crews to contain the five-alarm fire. 14 Fire Departments responded. No one was home at the time of the fire. The fire is being investigated and the cause is unknown.
