BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–A Berkeley County jury has convicted Evodio Hernandez-Santo, 26, following a three-day trial for Discharging a Firearm into a Building following a shooting at El Alamo bar in Hanahan.

He was also convicted of Unlawful Carrying of a Pistol from the same incident. Assistant Solicitors Daniel Duquette and Alex Myers prosecuted the case.

The defendant had been a frequent patron of the El Alamo and had developed personal relationships with

some of the managing staff. Following an argument, the victims banned the defendant from the bar.

On the night of October 6, 2017, at approximately 10:30 pm, the defendant parked across the street from the El Alamo at a nearby gas station and watched the bar for several minutes before quickly driving past the bar and firing several rounds into the windows.

Shortly thereafter, employees of the bar arrived for work and discovered the bay windows facing the street had been shot out with several bullet holes in the business’ interior and exterior walls.

Detective Flor Reyes with the Hanahan Police Department conducted a diligent investigation over the next several weeks, collecting video surveillance from several nearby business showing a Hummer circling the area for several minutes before driving by and shooting into the business.

Through subsequent interviews and investigative work, Detective Reyes was successful in matching the vehicle in the video to that of the Defendant. Hernandez-Santo was faced a possible ten years for the Discharge into a Building offense, as well as a possible one year for the Unlawful Carry. At sentencing, Circuit Court Judge Deadra L.

Jefferson sentenced Hernandez-Santo to two years on the Discharging a Firearm into a Building and one year on the Unlawful Carry. Hernandez-Santo may also face deportation as a result of the conviction.

“The verdict justly reflects the nature of Hernandez-Santo’s reckless disregard for public safety. Thankfully no one was hurt during this incident,” said Assistant Solicitor Daniel Duquette.
