BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C.–Berkeley County Water and Sanitation (BCWS) is continuing to monitor for Hydrogen Sulfide at the Landfill and exploring the potential that other sources are causing the odor. The County is considering every possible option to help determine the odor source and then eliminate it.
As of this week, the County’s meters are reading 0.0 ppm (parts per million) for Hydrogen Sulfide. Crews have placed several meters throughout the Foxbank neighborhood for monitoring purposes. These meters record at one-minute intervals.
Along with meters, BCWS employees are walking the Foxbank neighborhood in the mornings, from 6-8 a.m. while wearing a meter. Based off reports, this is the time of day when the odor appears to be the strongest. This is part of the effort to ascertain both the source and further remedial action.
Again, Berkeley County’s efforts have focused on the landfill proper, but now have been broadened to explore other possible sources that may be producing an odor.
If an odor is noticed please notify BCWS at 843-719-2386. If a message is left, please be as specific as possible including location and time.
